The Minister for Education, Norma Foley TD and local TD Paul McAuliffe dropped by for a short visit to St. Aidan’s CBS on Thursday 30th September. There was great excitement in the school and on arrival she was greeted by a guard of honour from our Student Council, the Principal Mr. Shannon, members of staff, representatives from the Parents’ Council and the Board of Management. It was obvious from the onset that she was warm and friendly with a good sense of humour. In a very relaxed manner she took the time to speak with each of the students who were outside to greet her, the staff and the representatives.
Our Principal welcomed Ms Foley to the school and shared some history of the school. In the Minister’s speech she said she wanted to visit our school to communicate her thanks for the work that everyone has done in the school throughout the pandemic.
After the speeches and refreshments, the Student Council asked her to sign the visitors’ book and they presented her with a special St. Aidan’s pen. The Principal gave her a quick tour of the school. She was very interested in meeting and chatting with the students and teachers in their classrooms. What a surprise for some of the students to have the Minister for Education arriving to chat at the classroom door.
The students and staff are very proud of the school and that pride was evident throughout the visit. We hope she will make a return trip to the school at some stage in the near future.
