The First Year boys had a little service to mark the feast day of Blessed Edmund Rice. Our prayer centred on the compatibility of the Bí Cinéalta policy of being kind with the ethos of an Edmund Rice School. The boys looked at the uniform as a symbol of unity, in that every boy who ever attended our school shared that heritage and the reminder that we have far more in common than things we imagine divide us. We lit a separate candle for each class group and reflected on the bakery in the first CBS and how Blessed Edmund understood the need to meet basic needs first. In today's world the basic need is often to feel safe and listened to and part of a community. We honour that need through the Bí Cinéalta policy when we celebrate kindness and act as good bystanders, standing up for anyone who is getting a hard time from others. Finally, we took the concept of feast day a little literally and shared trays of buns before the boys set off for the Axis to see the TY play.
