As we approach the end of another busy academic year, it is time to reflect on the

incredible strides our Green Schools Committee has made. From tackling daily

waste to planning for our future environmental goals, the dedication shown by our

students has been nothing short of inspiring.

Navigating New Waters: The Marine Environment

This year marked a significant transition for us as we began laying the groundwork

for our next flag theme: the Marine Environment. This theme focuses on the

conservation of our oceans and the impact of inland litter on marine life. To

kickstart this journey, the committee organised a highly successful beach clean-up

at Dollymount Strand.

Armed with litter pickers and sustainable bags, our volunteers worked tirelessly to

clear plastic waste and debris from the shoreline. This hands-on experience served

as a stark reminder of how our local actions directly affect the biodiversity of

Dublin Bay. It was a fantastic day of teamwork that set a high standard for the

work we will pursue next year.

A New Voice for Our Mission

To ensure our message resonates throughout the school corridors, we

recently held a school-wide slogan competition. We were overwhelmed by the

creativity shown across all year groups. However, one entry stood out for its

clarity and impact.

"Keep it neat from shore to street"

A massive congratulations to Kevin Byrne in 3 East for this winning entry!

Kevin’s slogan perfectly encapsulates the link between our urban environment

and the sea, and it will serve as our official motto as we strive for our Marine

Environment flag.

Acknowledgements & Farewell

Mr. Moore would like to extend his sincerest thanks to the Green Schools

Committee and to Ms. Crossan for their unwavering hard work and passion

throughout the year. Coordinating these initiatives requires significant time and

energy, and Ms. Crossan’s leadership has been vital to our success.

We also owe a debt of gratitude to the wider school community. Tackling issues

like litter is a collective effort, and your cooperation in maintaining a clean campus

does not go unnoticed. Together, we are building a more sustainable future for our

school.

Finally, we must bid a fond farewell to our departing 6th Year members, Ray and

Iosef. Their commitment over the years has been exemplary, and they leave

behind a lasting legacy. We wish them the very best as they head on to bigger and

better things.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back in the autumn and inviting new

members to join our ranks in September. Have a green and peaceful summer!
