Learning Support

St. Aidan’s CBS is a welcoming and inclusive school where every child is supported and encouraged. As an Edmund Rice school, we promote equality of access and participation; children of every ability are welcome in our school and will receive support based on the General Allocation Model. The new ‘General Allocation Model’ provides a unified, whole-school approach to special educational teaching, both in mainstream classes and in support classes. This model allows for all students to receive support throughout their educational journey in St. Aidan’s. Resources available in the school will be deployed based on a child’s individual needs. The support provided in St. Aidan’s is not solely based on academic abilities. We wish to ensure that all students in St. Aidan’s receive a holistic education, which nurtures their emotional, mental, social, and spiritual development alongside their academic development; support is provided for all these areas of competence.

The Continuum of Support

The Department of Education and Skills set out the ‘Continuum of Support’ framework to assist schools in identifying the needs of the students in the schools and responding to these needs. The focus of the Continuum of Support is on how post-primary schools may include all students in processes of learning and development. When the appropriate data and reports are gathered and analysed, the needs of the students are identified, and the school develops and evaluates interventions to meet those needs. Using this framework ensures that interventions are purposeful and progressive, moving from class-based interventions to more focused and individualised support, and that they are informed by careful monitoring of progress.
