Happy First Day

Happy First Day

So great to see happy 1st years enjoying their first morning in secondary. They had a talk from the principal and their year heads, followed by a tour of the school and played some very creative games. They also got to know some school rules, always handy to have in order to stay out of trouble.

Awards Night 2015

The Awards Night is always a wonderful night that celebrates all the achievements of the students in every aspect of the school. Mr Paul Ward organizes the event so well, with the support of both staff and Student Council. The two MC’s on the night were Ms. Kate Mc Dermott and Ms. Zara Kennedy. Considering for both of them it was their first time as MC’s they did an excellent job and the evening moved along with great efficiency. As part of our 50thcelebrations our guest of honour was Mr. Bertie Ahern a past pupil of the school whose fond memories of being a student in the school are still quite vivid in his mind. We appreciate and give many thanks to our sponsors as the night is always a huge success and means so much to the students and staff. Congratulations to all the nominees and the winners in each category it is a great achievement.

St. Aidan’s Art /Photo Exhibition 50th Celebration

As part of the 50th celebrations we held a student past and present Art Exhibition 15th- 17th May in the school which was a wonderful success. We were very lucky to have the wonderful David Brophy a past pupil of the school himself to open the exhibition. He spoke about the importance of creativity in our lives and in the workplace and his fond memories of the school. He is a very inspirational speaker and set the tone for the evening. It was wonderful to see so many past pupils, parents, and staff both past and present at the exhibition.

This exhibition put our students work, past and present, centre stage. In this, the year of our 50th Anniversary, many past pupils who contacted us through Linked In, Facebook, the school website etc spoke very fondly of their experience of Art in the school, and particularly of our art teachers, the late Nick Moran whom staff and past pupils always speak so highly of and our wonderful Deirdre Mc Quaid (depending on their vintage). Some past pupils have described the Art Room as a sanctuary, for others it was the first step on a career path.

The same weekend, our Immersion Project held an exhibition of work done by a local group of artists called the Ballygall Art Studio who paint for charity. Their work was on sale, and all proceeds went towards fundraising for Immersion. A big thank you to all the past and present pupils for their works of art, making the exhibition such a terrific success.
