Dáil Eireann

The two 5th year Economic classes visited Dáil Éireann on the 24th September 2015. They enjoyed their trip and discovered a lot about the Dáil. The 5th year Economic students recently had a trip to Leinster House. They had a guided tour of the Dáil and the Senate while both houses were in progress. They found the tour very interesting and relevant to their studies.

Recess Outdoor Adventure Centre

The transition year trip to Recess was an incredible experience. It really assisted in developing friendships and new skills among the lads involved. The activities were quite enjoyable and forced people out of their comfort zones in a way that they would be proud of later. Those who had a fear of heights tackled the climbing challenge while those who are strangers to water had great fun while kayaking and surfing. The food was delectable whether it involved a barbeque on the beach or a cordial roast beef dinner. We enjoyed various activities at night which involved quizzes, bingo and pool tournaments. When it came to end we were reluctant to leave and left with an experience that we would never forget. It is evident that this is an essential aspect of transition year and something that we will look back on in years to come.

Maths Challenge

Our terrific 1st year students put their brains together to solve some tough maths questions in a school workshop on Friday 16th October. It was all part of maths week in primary and secondary schools around the country. Our maths department had plenty of questions with a little fun mixed in also. Well done to all involved.

Brass Band

The brass band students are taking lessons in brass instruments on either Monday or Tuesday morning. This is a free scheme funded by DIT to help students who learned an instrument in primary school to continue playing with an aim to link up with other schools in the area. They played so well in the Helix for their performance at the DCU Access Awards. Well done to Mr. R Gill their music teacher and all the students involved.

Google Magic

Our trip to Google was amazing. All of coding club went which varies from 2nd years to 6th years. We took the bus to the Google headquarters in town. They had three large buildings which were all connected together. They have very nice things such as the first jetpack or the self-driving Google car. There was a micro kitchen on ever floor with pool tables or swings. We had our own private room so we could watch small clips about Google in the past obviously shown by our tour guide who was called Ken Daly. What we thought the best thing was that they had their own gym/swimming pool. On one of the floors they had their own gift shop which was only for people working in Google which we thought wasn’t very smart. On the very top of the building you could see all of town including the Aviva stadium. We also had our own Google badges on our jumpers. We had a blast.
