Cross Country Final

The school Cross-Country team was sharpening its swords ahead of the National finals only to be beset by a raft of illness and injuries. However our tough and resilient First Years were unscathed.

They represented the school on Saturday 7th March in the Irish Life All-Ireland Schools Cross-Country championship in Santry Demesne. They had trained consistently since early September to reach the summit and were ready to go. They are very proud of what they have achieved but were naturally a little bit nervous. Close to 450 schools had entered the competition and now it was down to the final 12. Just to be competing in the final 12 school is a feat in itself. The first years on the team were Devin Morrisey (C), Logan Preston, Rory Quill, Josh Mahon, Cathal O' Neill, Noah Rossi, Finn Murray, Tom Brosnan, Andrew Bruton and Devin Wynne.

It was an emotional day as two parents of these lads had run for the famous red and white of St. Aidan's and Andrew's uncle, Niall, was a double Olympian and world champion. There was only one lonely soldier going in the Senior race - Callum Simpson surely deserving of a supportive pat on the back. They ran with great vigour and pride for the school on the day giving it their all. Congratulations to the first-year Cross-Country team which ran strongly finishing 6th in the all-Ireland championships. Hardly anything separated 3rd-6th so they were close to making the podium. Warmest thanks and appreciation for all the support this season from Mr. O Neill.
