Champions U14s

Matthew Martin TY and the European Karate Championships

Last November saw Matthew’s selection to the National Karate Squad for the European Karate Championships, one of 16 athletes in the country to be given the honour of representing their country at such a high level.  This is the first time in the history of Larkhill Karate Club that an athlete was selected at this level.    Matthew’s selection was a result of his high achievements in previous years at both national and international level.

The build up to the EKFS (held in Sofia, Bulgaria) saw Matthew train incredibly hard, most days of the week and included intense training over his Christmas holidays in Dublin, Cork and Glasgow.  He had countless hours of physical therapy and hours of mental coaching in preparation for the event. Matthew fully embraced every aspect of his training.

Matthew performed to a very high standard at the EKFs doing his country proud, an experience he will remember for the rest of his life, no doubt.

Since February Matthew has competed in the IKKU International Open Championships taking Silver.  The ONAKAI National championships taking Silver and last weekend 26th April 2017, saw him take Bronze for Ireland at the Scottish International Open.

After years of campaigning Karate will make its debut into the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020 and who knows maybe someday St. Aidan’s will have a Karate Olympian!  Medals aside, his hard work, dedication and humble attitude makes him a champion.

A big congratulations to our Matthew and wishing him every success in the future.Matthew Martin 2

Under 16 GAA

Senior Footballers

For the first time, our senior footballers made their debut in the North Leinster League as a mean of preparation for the A Championship. It proved a worthwhile exercise, with wins against Scoil Dara (Kilcock) and St Pat’s (Navan) as well as a draw with Edenderry CS meaning we finished a respectable third in the group; this despite being decimated by injuries.

However, it is of course the championship that really matters and the lads proved this with a brilliant away victory against Patrician Secondary School, Newbridge on Friday 25th. Despite being three points down midway through the second half, the team rallied to outscore their opponents 1-6 to 0-2 for the remainder of the game, securing a deserved four point victory. St Mel’s of Longford are next up in a home draw which should attract a large and vociferous local support.

Basketball Glory

Terrific win, 9th December, for our senior basketball team, final score, St. Aidan’s 61 and St Fintan’s 50.  Congratulations all round to great team players and their coaches.
