Senior Hurling

The Senior hurlers bowed out at the Semi Final of the "A" Competition this year after being defeated by 2 points by Colaiste Eanna. The school would like to thank all the players for their efforts especially the 6th Years who played their last game in hurling for St. Aidan's CBS. These players are a special bunch and will go on to great things both on and off the pitch in future years.

Well done to the U-16 Hurlers who created history in becoming the first team from St Aidans CBS to win the U-16 A Hurling title. They defeated Colaiste Eoin in the final 4.12 to 2.12. This was a fantastic performance after getting a man sent off and being down by 5 points with 8 minutes to go in extra time. The game was played in dreadful weather conditions but the team showed unbelievable character and heart to come from behind and win the final. They have now qualified for the Leinster final.

U16 Basketball

UThe U16’s have played so well this term but sadly were defeated in the quarter final of the Dublin A championship by a team who may possibly win the all Ireland. The lads played with tremendous spirit, congratulations to them all on the hard work and dedication they put in this year with their own trainings and with helping train the 1st and 2nd year teams.

LCA Football Competition

Great success was had by the LCA class who organised a 1st year football competition as part of their General Education class. This event took place from 11am to 1pm on Thursday 26th November. The interest in the event was high as many students signed up for the competition and on the day the weather was kind. The LCA students were excellent at organising the pupils on the day and great fun was had by all. Well done to all involved

Staff V’s Students Ryder Cup Golf Match 2015

During October mid-term and on the wettest Tuesday in the history of the state the inaugural staff v’s students golf match took place.  The venue was an impeccably presented Corrstown Golf Club and the mood was lively and boisterous despite the best efforts of Mother Nature. Credit has to be given to both 10 man teams for completing the contest given the conditions and it went down to the wire and indeed to the last match, where the students ‘anchor team’ of Cian O’ Brien and Eoin Dunne overcame the experienced staff pairing of Mr. Cotter and Mr. Hastings on the 17th green.  This meant a victory once again for the students, on a scoreline of 3-2.  This is the second year in a row the students have won this prestigious award, and deservedly so.  The other two wins for the students came from Sean Kellett & Luke McCarthy who triumphed over Mr. Lowry and Mr. McCafferty, and Adam Duffy & Alex Tyrell who defeated Mr. Deneher and Mr. S Moore.  From a staff point of view, well done to Mr. Brown and Mr. J Moore who defeated Dean Duffy & Carl Smith, and to Mr. Kelly and Mr. Lynch who showed no mercy in their win over Adam Keogh & Tadgh Kellett.  For the students, this is further proof of the strides they have taken over the years and the vast improvements in their game that will someday hopefully wield a Leinster Golf title in the St. Aidan’s colours.  Credit also goes to both captains for their efforts in organising and motivating their teams and we all now look forward to the social outing that will take place over the February midterm.
