New ground was broken for the school in October when a group of Sixth Years travelled to Corca Dhuibhne, the Kerry Gaeltacht, for the weekend. The long journey began when we assembled at the school to leave at 7am. We stopped on the way for refreshments and enjoyed a great afternoon on the town of Dingle on arrival. The trip was a combination of activities, including class, céilí dancing, and sight-seeing. Students enjoyed the joys of Coumeenole Beach as well as a trip to Ionad an Bhlascaoid which tells the story of the spectacular Blasket Islands which provide a stunning background to any trip around Slea Head.
Students and teachers stayed in the houses of local families and travelled by bus to the various activities over the weekend. Highlights included a trip to Dingle and its ‘Beo Mara’ which featured a guided tour of a vast array of creatures in the aquariam, as well as a visit to the statue of the legendary Kerry footballer Paidí Ó Sé. The students were accompanied by Mr Ryan, Miss Duggan, Miss Donohoe and Mr Humphreys, and it was generally regarded as a hugely successful trip. Even on the way home many students were already expressing an interest in a return trip to the area.
Bhain siad taitneamh as cuimse as an turas seo agus na radharcanna áille timpeall na háite. Tá gach dóchas ann go mbeidh muid in ann an beart céanna a dhéanamh arís.
