In mid September the Gaisce group ventured forth on a hike in the Dublin Mountains. The group consisted of the pupils Raymond Higgins, Ellis Murray, Alex Brady and Eoin Quill. Mr. McCormack was our Award Leader on the trip as a supervisor and everyone carried their own equipment. The group started the hike at around nine in the morning, hiked for several hours passing Ticknock and reaching the summit of Fairy Castle. They then made their descent and set up camp in the Glencullen area.
The group was hungry and tired, yet they persisted to make a fire and cook dinner - fuelling the group. The day was coming to an end and the sun wouldn't be out for too much longer, so the group acted fast and put up their tents so they could be safe from the elements for the night. As night fell the group decided to go to sleep because they had another several hours to hike the next day. As they woke up they were surprised at the fact that it wasn’t raining, despite the forecast. They made breakfast consisting of sausages and rashers, a strong meal, and one needed for what was to come. As they started their hike once again, they took in the scenic views which the mountain had provided them. With luscious trees and plant life it was something only to be heard of. After the hike, the group parted ways with each other going home after a long two days. In total, they hiked over twenty kilometres, and are now one step closer to receiving their Gaisce Bronze Award.
