The Student Council was delighted to host ‘International Day’ on April 27th.
We began the day with a ‘Fair Trade’ breakfast, during which students enjoyed fruit, spreads, chocolate, tea and cocoa from Fair Trade producers. Alongside this we displayed information about being a conscious consumer and buying ethically sourced products when possible, supporting farmers around the world.
Students then set up their stands in the hall. Over 140 students, representing 26 countries transformed the hall into an explosion of colourful flags and traditional clothing, featured music from around the world, and cooked up a storm with foods from their or their families’ home countries.
The students had created posters and PowerPoints to educate and entertain the school community with facts, pictures, and videos, and were encouraged to chat to their peers about the country they represented. This included learning about the culture, history, politics and landmarks of that place. It was a enjoyable and educational day for all involved!
Some of my personal highlights include the impromptu Bollywood dancing, the IKEA-inspired Sweden table and The Philippines and Nigerian representatives bonding over their shared obsession for basketball!
We cannot thank the students and their parents and guardians involved enough, the daywouldn’t be the same without their input, and we love seeing so much of our school’s culturerepresented. We invite everybody to celebrate with us again next year!
