Sports Day Success

With rain in the forecast it was a tough call to make but it was decided to run with our annual Sports Day in Morton Stadium in May. We were lucky that the rain stayed away until near the end, and in fact conditions were very good until they changed as predicted. Michael Corr started the day off with the National anthem. We had our four ‘houses’ each wearing their team colours. Ms Askins and Mr Murphy opened the day with a quick warm-up for all students and then called out the various races. The students participated in events such as relays and sprints, poc fada, long jump, high jump, welly throwing, tug-o-war competition and novelty races. We had some very fast runners in the various races and all the students were delighted when presented with their medals and had their photo taken.

It is a day where everyone feels part of a school team, share in the winning and taking part as a team on the day. Mr Deneher thanked the students for their excellent participation and behaviour, he also thanked in particular the PE Department for their excellent organisation and making it such an inclusive event. While everything looked calm and serene on the day it was only due to the incredible work and preparation put in beforehand.

A huge thank you to our TY Sports Leaders for helping run the different events run so smoothly and also to all the staff who all had a job to do, all making the day such a huge success. Memories are made of this type of day.

The 1st years were taken on a school trip to Emerald Park on a day when there was glorious sunshine as a reward for all their hard work during the year. The following is written by Darragh from 1st year after enjoying the trip so much.
