International Day Success
What a week it was! International Day 2025 took place on Thursday, April 10th, and while some may see it as just another school event, for the Student Council it’s one of the highlights of the year.
From as far away as Australia to as near as England, International Day celebrates the rich diversity of cultures within the St Aidan’s community.
Preparation begins about a month in advance, with forms sent out to students inviting them to represent their own culture or a country close to their heart. The Student Council then carefully reviews the applications and selects representatives.
This year, the decision-making process was particularly challenging, with over 200 applications submitted. To ensure fairness, every student was asked to write a short paragraph explaining why they wanted to represent their chosen country. This thoughtful approach helped us make informed decisions and is something we plan to continue in future years.
Some groups were made up of friends united by family ties to a country, while others simply shared an interest in a particular culture. Each student prepared a display that could include a poster, traditional clothing, cultural performances, or homemade cuisine. Many went above and beyond by showcasing all of the above.
Highlights included the French table’s delicious home-made baguettes and a spicy curry served by another group. One particularly popular stall was the Tea Club, which offered tea and biscuits for all to enjoy.
Overall, it was a fun-filled day with plenty to experience and remember. From the vibrant music to the mouth-watering food, there’s truly something for everyone to enjoy on International Day.
